Questions and Answers

1) Q: How did you first discover Sindy? A:  I first discovered Sindy when I was a child in the 1980s, being an only child she became  an instant friend ! I would say I seen an advert on the television.

2) Q: How old were you when you got your first Sindy? A:  I would say I was around 8 or 9 years of age, maybe 10.

3) Q: What model was your first Sindy? A:  I had the Active ballerina Sindy from 1981, but somehow my mother got the 1975 Active ballerina Sindy, and I fell in love with her, she has such a beautiful face and for a doll such graceful movements.

4) Q: What kind of Sindy/Sindy item did you dream about as a kid? A:  As a kid the Sindy “Super home 1983”, I never got to have one, always wished for one but it never came.

5) Q: What kind of Sindy/Sindy item do you dream about now? A: I think a Gayle or her equivalent would be nice to have in my collection.

 6) Q: What led you into your Sindy career you have today? A: Passion! Passion for Sindy! Everything about her! It’s pure escapism! To get away from reality for a while!

7) Q: Can you mention three people you think helped you there?  A:  firstly my Rob, he  put up all the shelves, desk  and built me all of the bottom units that all of my Sindy houses sit on, so to raise them off the floor for me, as I find it difficult to get down that low. As I have fibromyalgia, along with other things… My 2nd person would be my son Joshua, he helps to bring the Sindy things over for me as he lives in the UK, and he has also paid  for some  of  the Sindy dolls and  furniture etc, because he knows I have great enjoyment out of them and of course because he loves me and wants to treat me to them! The 3rd person would be my Aunt June, I went on so much about Sindy that my aunt ended up getting some houses and Sindys herself! But then she moved and didn’t have the space, so she gave me a Sindy house and garage/bedroom extension and some furniture to donate to the sindysanctuarymuseumireland… She also brought me a Sindy caravan for my birthday also one time, which I was thrilled with! 

8) Q: Do you have a special goal for your Sindy work? A: A goal that I hope to achieve is to help the beginners who are getting into the world of Sindy and to share what knowledge I have on Sindy, (TLSM: “visit Dionne’s Pinterest where she shares a lot of pinned Sindy related pictures that are really helpful when it comes to identification!”) as I hyperfixate on her as I am also autistic! Sindy has helped myself a lot throughout the years mentally. Growing up from when I was younger with certain situations, she was my constant companion and my friend when I had no one to talk too. I want to share my love of Sindy to spread the love! It’s always good to bring out our own inner child and escape, even for a little while! 

9) Q: Can you mention three people you think of as doll influencers? A: For myself I find (your) Little Sindy Museum website very useful and easy to find things where it has been set out well! I also like Our Sindy Museum as that is very resourceful also and I came across in my Sindy museum a different lace variation that is on a “Schuco – Gold Sindy dress, 1979” which my photo is on that website (and I must show you also for your museum!)

I don’t really follow influencers, as I enjoy people’s Sindy posts on Instagram, where I have a new Sindy page called @thesindysanctuarymuseumireland I used to be on Facebook but Instagram is much more relaxed. I also have a Pinterest page going by “deebee” one of my boards has alot of Sindy photos on it, for outfit identification etc. 

10) Q: What do you love/like/appreciate about Sindy? A: What’s not to love about Sindy! She’s wholesome, in the 60s to the late 80s had a decent body shape, she was literally the girl next door. I also collect 7″ inch Sindy dolls, the New Moon Sindy dolls, Hasbro Sindy dolls, the 18 inch Sindy dolls and the Hachette versions  of Sindy and of course the Kid Kreations Sindy dolls.

Anything else you’d like to share with us? Definitely! I would like to say a good hobby is great for people’s mental health, no matter what it is! Sindy has helped me alot throughout the years we are told to “stop playing with dolls at a certain age” or “your to big for them now…” we all need  “our inner child  to come out  and play!” so I would say for anyone to jump right into the world of Sindy! There are plenty of friendly people out there like myself to help you, in the world that love Sindy and I would like to thank you Martina for the opportunity to be up on your website! (TLSM: “You’re very welcome, thank YOU Dionne!”)

Dionne also has a mysterious Sindy (see her photos below) in her collection that reminds of the Sol og Sommer Sindy but she has long hair. Her scalp is painted white, which we only have seen on the Sol og Sommer Sindy.
