In 1978 Sindy began to be sold in the United States of America and in Canada since the conglomerate that Pedigree belonged to had bought the US toy company Marx, which gave them access to the US market. But in order to make the customers feel more “at home” with Sindy they decided to use Marx, instead of Pedigree, as the toy manufacturer. Some changes were made to make the Marx Sindy more attractive such as a different logo and a new catchphrase: “Sindy – a whole world to share”. This turned out to be a great plan since Sindy’s furniture was a success and was bought by a lot of Barbie owners!
“The market, however, was extremely tough, and in 1980 Dunbee-Combex-Marx went into liquidation.” From the page 304 of the book Encyclopedia of Play in Today’s Society, Volym 1. Rodney P. Carlisle.
