Questions and Answers
1) Q: How did you first discover Sindy? A: Growing up in the 70s, I tagged along with my mum, a troubleshooter for a big company, to her workplace on the vibrant Portobello Road in Notting Hill. A fab couple running a local toy shop nearby let me help stack shelves, and as a reward, I got to pick a treasure from their pocket money shelf, where I first fell in love with Sindy! All those Sindy hearts…swoon……I was smitten.
2) Q: How old were you when you got your first Sindy? A: Haha, nice try sneaking my age out of me! Let’s just say I was young enough to be dazzled by Sindy’s charm.
3) Q: What model was your first Sindy? A: My first was the stunning ballerina Sindy with gorgeous auburn hair (most of my girls rocked auburn or brunette vibes!) I also snagged the dazzling Sindy Superstar (ice skater) on the same Christmas, talk about a double dose of holiday magic!
4) Q: What kind of Sindy/Sindy item did you dream about as a kid? A: I was obsessed with the cream living room and French chic bedroom furniture set, total dream decor! As an adult, I turned my Victorian house into a Sindy inspired home.
5) Q: What kind of Sindy/Sindy item do you dream about now? A: After finally scoring the iconic Sindy piano (dream achieved!), I’m now on a thrilling hunt for my next big find, stay tuned to see what catches my eye next!
6) Q: What led you into your Sindy career you have today? A: It began with a charity shop Sindy I couldn’t pass up. I cleaned her up, planning to keep her, but listed her on eBay, feeling silly for collecting. Regret hit me right away! I grabbed a marketplace bundle straight after, learned to re-root hair, and then life threw curveballs, my sister’s passing, menopause, and lockdown. Rerooting became my therapy as it was calming and creative. I jumped on Instagram to share my restorations, and it snowballed into face painting, restringing, photography, sewing, and crochet. I thrive on challenges and love inspiring others to “ just give it a go” sharing what I learn for free.
7) Q: Can you mention three people you think helped you there? A: Big shout out to @kazzasworld, my first real-life doll buddy, Ruth Gadsby, my first online pal, and Fran, Mich, Robert, and Julie for their hilarious, warped humor (counting them as one—hope that’s cool?). They’ve been my rock stars! And my friend Ann from Our Sindy Museum has been an inspiration as well!
Q: Do you have a special goal for your Sindy work? A: My big dream? Finding more space to unleash my Sindy passion! watch out….
9) Q: Can you mention three people you think of as doll influencers? A: Huge props to @sirdork for his jaw-dropping photography, @Hoanganhkhoi for his sewing genius, and @fancydolldesigns for crochet brilliance, these talents inspire me daily!
10) Q: What do you love/like/appreciate about Sindy? A: Sindy’s my hero in ballet shoes, she saved me as a kid during tough times, turning me into an avid collector with almost every item released in my collection. Decades later, she’s transformed me again, shifting me from collector to creator, mirroring her many careers. She’s my twice in a lifetime saviour, and I’m living proof of her magic!
