Questions and Answers
1) Q: How did you first discover Sindy? A: When I bought a Sindy for my oldest daughter, Martina.
2) Q: How old were you when you got your first Sindy? A: 79 years old.
3) Q: What model was your first Sindy? A: Kid Kreation 2020 Weekender.
4) Q: What led you into your Sindy career you have today? A: I love to sew and have done it almost my whole life. When Martina started The Little Sindy Shop on Etsy, she asked me if I wanted to make clothes for Sindy that we could sell there.
5) Q: Can you mention three people you think helped you on there? A: My mother Dagmar, who worked as a seamstress, tought me and my twin sister how to sew. When we turned 18 years old, we sewed all our clothes our self.
When my kids started to play with Sindy, I tought them how to sew at the same time as I sewed clothes for their Sindys.
When Martina started to collect Sindy dolls, as a grown up, my interest to sew clothes for Sindy returned and we started The Little Sindy Shop.
6) Q: Do you have a special goal for your Sindy work? A: I have always my sewing machines up and ready and I love to make Sindy clothes when I have nothing else needed to be done. A lot of times I can see a teenager in a nice outfit that inspires me. This often leads to new ideas of Sindy clothes that I want to create. Since I’ve written a book about how to cut fabric into a garment, I do my own patterns for Sindy.
My goal for my Sindy work is to have fun and sew my own designs for Sindy.
7) Q: What do you love/like/appreciate about Sindy? A: She meant a lot to my kids and I have so many cherished memories of Sindy from that period.
Anything else you’d like to share with us? I’ve also worked in a fabric store and then had the possibility to buy a lot of fabrics, that I still have, and it also taught me a lot of the different qualities and what fabric to use to different garments.

Below are some photos of outfits Mai has created for The Little Sindy Shop. She also tells something about each outfit:

I think an apron in jeans fabric is both stylish and practical for Sindy!
I’ve been given a lot of jeans trousers that friends were to throw away but instead I can use the still good parts of the garment to sew small things like aprons, bags and such for Sindy and bags or oven gloves for humans.
I wanted to sew a nice little dress for Sindy and I liked the model but I thought something was missing.
Then I came up with an idea of a sweet hat in an old style. This made the garment complete and Sindy doesn’t get the sun in her eyes!

I wanted to make something for Sindy to wear on festive occasions. I looked in my fabric closet but it took me some time to find a fabric I thought was nice enough. But luckily I found a black fabric with golden pattern on. That was perfect!
I created a top in that fabric and I wanted the outfit to have a full length wide skirt in black. To make variations able, I also wanted some kind of jacket. I found a golden/yellow velvet fabric that I created boleros out of.
I was very pleased!
To sew a coat in tiny sizes can be a bit tricky since they preferable should have lining.
But I found felt fabric in different colours and didn’t feel the need for it to have lining inside. I used the different colours of the fabric to create different details so each coat is unique!

I had some different striped fabrics and I decided to make something fun with the stripes. I put them in different directions and the dresses got a more interesting design, that way.
I was very satisfied with the end result!
I wanted to create a somewhat Austrian dress with nice puff sleeves in white fabric and the rest of the dress in colour.
The dress can look a bit more festive if you don’t use the apron. But to get the exact design I was after I needed an apron for the outfit.

Here I wanted to create a warm and cozy winter coat with a hood for Sindy. When I went through my fabric closet I found soft fleece in different colours and also a tiny piece of white fur.
I was very lucky that the fur piece was big enough so I could give all the coats the details I wanted!
The coats also looked very cute on SIndy and this model was a favourite in the shop.
I got an idea about a skirt with ruffle and suspenders. I found a lot of small pieces of fabrics that would be great for this.
Since most of those fabrics had different colours in them I picked out monochrome coloured fabrics to make matching blouses to go with the skirts. To make them a bit more fun I gave them buttons in another colour that also matched the colour of the skirts.

I wanted to make a nice outfit for Sindy with a jacket and a matching short skirt.
To make it more easy to vary I made a loose fur collar and a belt in suede, that also can be removed.
I’ve created this model in a lot of different fabrics through the years. It’s been very popular!
This time I wanted to create a somewhat more Scandinavian old country styled outfit. To give it the more old time feeling I made head shawls in the same fabric as the dress.
To my happiness the customers liked it a lot!

I wanted to knit a sweater with a slit and collar for Sindy but didn’t have any knit description and wasn’t sure what size on the knitting needles I should use. I used 2 1/2 mm and it worked.
I wasn’t sure if I would be able to create a sweater all on my own but I was happy with the end result! While I still had the courage I made matching hats too and I was very satisfied with how they looked!
THANK YOU Mai for your amazing work and for taking the time to answer all the questions!
