Nosferatu Sindy

These Fun Facts are shared by Lennart at Club Sindy! He writes:

“On Friday the 4th of December 1998, Sweden’s largest exhibition (to date) about the Sindy doll opened. We got access to the exhibition space on Monday, November 30th, and thus had only four stressful days to build the exhibition before the opening on Friday at 12 o’clock.

Two devoted collectors, Lennart and Ingrid, would transport all the material, unpack and place all the objects in the stands and build the scenes before Friday. The lights in the ceiling would also be replaced with colored spotlights to create a cozier environment.

Already during the spring and summer after the Toy Museum had agreed to the proposed exhibition, at Mariatorget in Stockholm, extensive work and planning began. The show was named after Hasbro’s Soiree Magnifique Sindy from 1995, Sindy Magnifique.

Before the exhibition, Lennart also asked young children what they thought Sindy would do. Some of the suggestions were for Sindy to be a princess, captured by a dragon. Another suggestion was for Sindy to fight the Alien. It was still a girl who defeated the monster in the film, he pointed out by way of clarification. Superheroes were mentioned and finally the suggestion came from a little girl, Sindy should be a vampire!”

“Of course, these proposals were not received with much enthusiasm by Hasbro’s headquarters in London. We were in contact with them to tell them about the exhibition and they wanted to know exactly what we were going to do. When they found out that Super Sindy would save Action Man, fight Alien and also be a vampire from Transylvania, it was a flat NO to use Sindy’s logo at the exhibition. But the support we received from the various toy stores such as Stor & Liten, Nallens Leksaker, Barnens Hus and the Toy Industry’s Per Sparre, editor of the newspaper Leksaksrevy, was extensive. In the January issue of Leksaksrevy there was an article about Sindy’s anniversary exhibition. Due to time constraints, we did not have time to build the scenes with Alien, Action Man and the others, even though a finished model of Alien had been produced. But Nosferatu Sindy, designed by Anna-Lena from Barbieringen, was there.

Fittingly, the English school arrived at the museum when the British Sindy doll opened the gates. We also had a live Sindy on site that visitors could talk to. Cookies, soft drinks and buns were offered to the visitors as well as a performance by a fire eater. In addition to these activities, a competition was organized where you could win a Sindy, what else? The visitors could also vote for their favorite model of Sindy and from day one Nosferatu Sindy stole the spotlight. Although Sindy’s MC show was popular with the kids, nothing could compete with Nosferatu Sindy, the black sheep of Sindy’s family. She won by far the most votes as the most popular Sindy doll!

From Hasbro’s headquarters in England, Lennart received a letter, which also contained some Sindy stuff, praising the exhibition. Furthermore, Hasbro told us that the exhibition in Stockholm had given Sindy more attention in the media worldwide than their own PR agency had managed during all the time they had been manufacturing Sindy. Hasbro also provided contact information to Vivid Imaginations, who would take over Sindy after Hasbro.

Vivid Imagination was informed how popular Nosferatu Sindy was during the exhibition and that she had been voted without competition as the most popular Sindy doll of all time by the visitors. Both adults and children loved her. Unfortunately, she was dismissed, despite attempts to convince the design manager. Once again, Nosferatu Sindy did not go down well and was dismissed. This decision was probably a gigantic mistake, both tactically and also in terms of business, considering how popular monster dolls such as Monster High from 2010 became. Sindy could have been the first with that trend but unfortunately it didn’t happen and what it had meant financially for the company everyone can understand. Also, they didn’t buy the idea that there would be an opposite as a contrast to the kind Sindy in stories, movies and games and when asked what Nosferatu Sindy ate, the answer is of course “vampire candy”.

Nosferatu Sindy was allowed to flap her wings home to Transylvania and as far as Club Sindy knows, she still lives happily in her dark castle. The Countess of Transylvania.

Club Sindy has also added a song on YouTube and writes:

“A project we are working on. CGI animation with Sindy in the lead role as the Countess of Transylvania. Nosferatu Sindy. We are creating concept art at the moment and trying to solve some practical problems with certain scenes. This is the soundtrack for the movie that is in production. This piece of music is the ending theme for Nosferatu Sindy, a film about the last vampire. Gothic horror music, vampire choir.”

Demo Lyrics: Under velvet clouds, I awaken, Kissed by moonlight. Lace in the air, silver breath I’m taken, Hungry for blood, searching for the light. Quiet as icicles tracing your slumber, I glide through the silence, a ripple in gloom. Secrets unspoken, my prey cannot wonder, Your dreams are a garden I bloom. Lay still, don’t cry, The darkness wraps you tight. Every heartbeat sighs, Drawn to death in the moonlight. In the moonlight, I call you ever near, Whisper in the rain, let me silence every fear. An embrace like a shadow, I’m colder than the night, Lose yourself forever in death in the moonlight. Lay still, don’t cry, The darkness wraps you tight. Every heartbeat sighs, Drawn to death in the moonlight.
