“DET LILLA SINDY MUSEET

Om Ni tillhör den skara som gillar Sindy och har vägarna förbi Höga Kusten och Kramfors. Varför då inte boka in ett besök på det lilla Sindy museet? Museet är tillägnat den brittiska modedockan Sindy och det drivs av Martina, en sann entusiast och hängiven samlare av Sindy.

Martina har byggt upp ett museum som återspeglar utvecklingen av Sindy. Det var den 6:e september 1963 som Sindy lanserades med TV reklam. Pengarna som avsattes för denna reklam räckte inte för att täcka hela landet, utan man satsade på London. Trots detta vart Sindy en enorm framgångssaga. Sindy reste sig ur askan från Barbies första nederlag. Den dåvarande Barbie dockan baserades på den tyska Bild Lilli som ironiskt nog inte vände sig till barn. Många föräldrar ansåg vid den här tiden att Barbie såg vulgär ut och var inte lämplig för barn i Storbritannien.

Pedigree insåg raskt utifrån kritiken att det behövdes en helt annan typ av docka för att bli accepterad efter det motstånd Barbie fick uthärda. Sindy blev också raskt Storbritanniens bästa säljande mannekängdocka. Både 1968 och 1970 utsågs Sindy till årets tjejleksak! I Sverige utsågs Sindy till årets leksak 1976. Barbie fick vänta till 1996 innan hon blev årets leksak i Sverige!

Sindys mode var välgjord och återspeglade europeisk design, Twiggy modellen från 60-talet och flower power rörelsen och det mode som präglade tidsepokerna återspeglas mycket väl i Sindys utveckling. Faktum är att 60 och 70-tals modet även till viss del levde kvar på 90-talet som tex Groovy Collection ifrån 1992 av Hasbro.

1975 släpptes den första aktiva Sindy dockan, den numera legendariska Ballerinan som hade leder så att hon kunde posera som en riktig ballerina. En berömd och omtyckt modell bland samlare. Efter 1986 försvann Sindys klassiska modell då Pedigree beslöt att låta andra företag överta produktionen av varumärket Sindy, som såldes till Hasbro. Fansen till den klassiska Sindy dockan vart besvikna över hur Hasbro förändrade Sindy. Men med Hasbro kom en ny generation av samlare som uppskattade hennes förändring.

1996 släpptes den sista framgångsrika serien, Miss India Sindy av Funskool. Serien tillverkades för den indiska marknaden fram till 2005 då Funskool valde att ej förnya licensen för Sindy utan bytte helt enkelt namn på dockan till Mia! Designen på Funskools dockor var samma som Hasbros från 90-talet och så även efter namn bytet till Mia.

På museet kan man se alla tidsepoker och även många av Sindys vänner som Mark, Mitzi och Sindys lilla syster Patch. Här finns även Paul, Sindys pojkvän döpt efter Beatels medlemmen Paul McCartney. Dockorna är dels placerade i montrar men det finns även uppbygda scener, andra är i sina originalförpackningar.

TLSM (The Little Sindy Museum) har även Sindy dockor ifrån New Moons, Vivid Imaginations och Gicohi Preziosi. Martina berättar att hon började samla på Sindy 2018. Hon saknade sin barndoms docka som hon tyckte så mycket om. Så i september 2020 slog museet upp portarna efter att ha fått tillstånd ifrån Pedigree, Sindys ägare. Varför inte sprida glädjen och låta alla ta del av detta brittiska kultur arv som Sindys historia är.

Museets syfte är att hålla Sindy dockans historia vid liv tillsammans med samlare världen över som också har donerat föremål till museet. Tonvikten ligger framförallt på Pedigrees Sindy docka då den ligger henne varmast om hjärta men nyligen skapades en avdelning för Hasbro Sindy också. Så oavsett vilken modell av Sindy du gillar finns det här något för alla!

Det kostar ingenting att besöka museet men man måste boka tid. Detta sker enklast genom att besöka The Little Sindy Museum hemsida och komma överns om en tidpunkt via e-post.

Club Sindy är framförallt en sida som inriktar sig på Hasbros tidsepok men vi stöder aktivt Martina och hennes museum. Vi har skänkt ett antal Pedigree dockor men även Hasbro, Funskool och Giochi Preziosi Sindy. Vi är också mycket tacksamma för den gåva vi erhöll från Martina som tack för de Sindy dockor vi skickade till henne.

THE LITTLE SINDY MUSEUM

If you belong to the crowd that likes Sindy and are in the area of Höga Kusten and Kramfors, why not book a visit to The Little Sindy Museum? The museum is dedicated to the British fashion doll Sindy and is run by Martina, a true enthusiast and devoted collector of Sindy.

Martina has built a museum that reflects the development of Sindy. It was on September 6, 1963 that Sindy was launched with TV commercials. The money set aside for this advertisement was not enough to cover the whole country, but London got it. Despite this, Sindy was a huge success story. Sindy rose from the ashes of Barbie’s first defeat. The Barbie doll was based on the German Bild Lilli doll which, ironically, was not aimed at children. Many parents at this time felt that Barbie looked vulgar and was not suitable for children in the UK.

Pedigree quickly realized from the criticism that a completely different type of doll was needed to be accepted after the resistance Barbie had to endure. Sindy also quickly became the UK’s best selling mannequin doll. In both 1968 and 1970, Sindy earned the title “Girl’s toy of the year”! In Sweden, Sindy she became “The toy of the year” in 1976. Barbie had to wait until 1996 before she became the toy of the year in Sweden!

Sindy’s fashion was well made and reflected European design, the Twiggy model from the 60’s and the flower power movement and the fashion that characterized the eras are very well reflected in Sindy’s development. The fact is that the fashion of the 60s and 70s also survived to some extent in the 90s, such as the Groovy Collection from 1992 by Hasbro.

In 1975, the first active Sindy doll was released, the now legendary Ballerina who had joints so she could pose like a real ballerina. A famous and popular model among collectors. After 1986, Sindy’s classic model disappeared when Pedigree decided to let other companies take over the production of the Sindy brand, which was sold to Hasbro. The design of Funskool’s dolls was the same as Hasbro’s from the 90s and so even after the name change to Mia.

At The Little Sindy Museum you can see all eras and also many of Sindy’s friends such as Mark, Mitzi and Sindy’s little sister Patch. There is also Paul, Sindy’s boyfriend named after the Beatles member Paul McCartney. The dolls are partly placed in display cabinets, but there are also built-up scenes and others are in their original packaging.

TLSM (The Little Sindy Museum) also has Sindy dolls from New Moons, Vivid Imaginations and Gicohi Preziosi. Martina says that she started collecting Sindy in 2018. She missed her childhood doll that she liked so much. So in September 2020, the museum opened its doors after receiving permission from Pedigree, Sindy’s owner. Why not spread the joy and let everyone share in this British cultural heritage that is Sindy’s story.

The museum’s purpose is to keep the history of the Sindy doll alive together with collectors worldwide who have also donated items to the museum. The emphasis is mainly on Pedigree’s Sindy doll as it is close to Martina’s heart, but recently a section was created for Hasbro Sindy as well. So no matter what model of Sindy you like, there’s something here for everyone!
