TLSM only has one of the lovely Hachette Sindy dolls. But thanks to Liz @sindylovesstyle you can see and learn more about the four dolls.

Liz says:

I’d love to show you my Hachette Sindys. I was introduced to them at The Sindy Set last year by a lovely fellow collector. I immediately liked their sweet faces. I learned that they were issued with the ‘The Wonderful World of Sindy’ magazine in 2007 published by Hachette, every fortnight at £6.99 an issue.

Only 4 issues were published so 4 Sindys were created. Each one wears a replica of a classic Sindy outfit: Nurse Sindy from 1978, A Royal Occasion 1977, Sun Suit Sindy 1974 and Fashion Girl Sindy 1968.

I found A Royal Occasion first (missing her hat), then Sun Suit, followed by the nurse. Unfortunately she didn’t have the uniform so this is one I’ve made with a Faery Glen dress.

It look a while to find the final one Fashion Girl, and I finally found her, still in her plastic cover complete with the magazine! Happy days. I do like to enjoy the dolls so rarely leave any in their boxes.

The last photo shows a letter in with the magazine, explaining that ‘due to circumstances beyond our control, we have to cease publication.’ However, if you returned the 4 covers of the magazine you’d receive a special gift as an apology.

Dionne @thesindysanctuarymuseumireland says: “I think it was a display case or stand that was the final gift.” But she’s not 100% sure.

THANK YOU Liz for sharing your information and photos!

TLSM has one of these lovely dolls, still in it’s box, as you can see in the photos below.

As far as TLSM understand, each doll had it’s own magazine that focused on the year that Sindy’s replica of a boutique-style fashion originally was sold. So for Fashion Girl Sindy the contents of the magazine focused on 1968 with “Your Doll”, “A year in Brief…”, “The Sindy Years” and “Collector’s Corner”.

The Sindy Years and Collector’s Corner: courtesy of Hilary Sewell.

As far as TLSM can tell, it’s the same Hilary who made the 9 issues of 12S in 2001 together with Thom Sewell. They were two Sindy collectors in England. (TLSM would love to get in contact with Hilary and/or Thom or anyone who knows them!)

When studying the Hachette doll’s bodies it’s clear that they used the same Sindy body as the larger New Moons Sindy and the cabin crew Sindy doll for British Airways. This body is marked with C (copyright) 2002 PD & T, which stands for Pedigree Dolls & Toys. They have hard plastic arms that can be rotated and moved in all directions. They have rubber legs with click-click knees and they can do split back-/frontwards only.

The Hachette (and Cabin Crew) Sindy dolls have a new, rotatable, soft head with rooted blond, dark brunette or red hair – designed to look more like the Pedigree Sindys from the 1970-80’s.
