You and your Sindy. Photos and Memories!

On September 6th 2025, TLSM turned FIVE! To celebrate that I asked my TLSM Friends on Social Media to take a photo of themselves with their mini-me, or favourite Sindy doll and write their best Sindy memory.

Below you can see all the photos and texts (that I’ve got, so far) and I call it: “You and your Sindy. Photos and Memories!” If you also want to join in, do the same and send it in an email to thelittlesindymuseum@gmail.com

You can join in whenever, for how many years to come!

Chrissy Roberts: “What lovely memories I have receiving my first Sindy doll which I still have to this day! It was Christmas morning 1966, I was so excited to get her along with the Dream Date outfit and accessories. My mum started sewing clothes for her and that was the start of my sewing journey. In my sixties I re-discovered my passion for Sindy and started collecting and make clothes for them. I was delighted to find like minded people out there….so many have now become lovely friends. ❤️❤️ xx”

Lee English: “Got my Sindy active age 7 in ’77. Saved my dolls, got extras for my children in the early ’00s and then got them out again when eldest went to Uni. I’ve learnt how to reroot, tighten arms, swap legs and i love to rescue poorly Sindys and resell so they can be enjoyed by someone else. I have over 150 Sindys and each have their own name. My mini me is called Lee and works as a physio.
My Sindys share their stories on #Hiverbridgetales

====================================

Martina Söderström: “I have so many lovely Sindy memories but my most memorable one is the day in 2020 when I got the licence from Pedigree, to use their Sindy name and logo for The Little Sindy Museum ❤️

This photo is of me and Izzy with our mini-mes Marta and Lizzy.”

====================================

Danne Sundling: “My best Sindy memory is from our camper van trip, when I saw my girlfriend, Martina, plan for and make our mini-me’s Midsummer festivities while I prepared our own celebration! She looked so happy and satisfied.”

====================================

Carol Louise Flanagan: “My first childhood & precious Sindy on the right. Only one in my collection has Sindy name pictured here with Sylver, my wife Freda only Sindy . We call this couple our mini me’s picture taken near our home in Connemara, on west coast of Ireland”

====================================

Annika Norell: “My favourite Sindy is any Sindy I find in a charity shop. The photo shows my happiness at rescuing no less than three Sindys from the very same shop. This is the luckiest I’ve been.”

====================================

Marguerite aka sindylife2021: “My sister and I had few toys. Our whole family was made homeless when I was 3 or 4 years old and we were rehoused in a council house. Dad was in and out of work when I was growing up so there was never really much money about. My younger sister and I each received the iconic Weekender Sindy with her Sindy logo t shirt and red trousers in 1977. We loved those dolls.

There wasn’t money to buy scene setters or the fashion packs but Mum would give us bits of fabric and encourage us to make clothes and outfits. She taught us to sew.

My Dad died 13 years ago and my Mum has dementia and is now in a nursing home. Sindy feels like a safe space in an increasingly hostile world and takes me back to what was and continues to be most important – family.”

====================================

Sue Scrase: “The Christmas of 1969 I was ten years old and my Weekender Sindy went everywhere with me. I got the most amazing present from my parents that year – a bedroom set for her! The silky, quilted eiderdown with its beautiful ruffles was heavenly. Cherubs on the headboard and tiny feet with faux wheels to lift it off the ground. Matching wardrobe and a dressing table with real drawers and a mirror….

These are not my originals, they were given, along with my two Sindy dolls, to my much younger cousin. I’ve collected these since, but they still produce the nostalgic joy and wonder of the originals…”

====================================

Kat aka anya_sasha: “One of my favourite Christmas memories is recieving my first Sindy in 1978. A lovely redhead Active Ballerina Sindy. I loved that doll as well as other early 80’s Sindys that came my way. As I grew older I bought Hasbro and Vivid Sindys in stores here. They didn’t hit the spot for me. Eventually I bought my childhood back via eBay, buying Pedigree/Florido Sindys and also the lovely Tonner Sindy doll. When the Kid Kreations Sindys were launched my excitement and the sense of anticipation felt like that Christmas long long ago…”

====================================

Jules aka Sindy Doll Pics: “I’m loving this girl a lot, she was totally broken and I think she has a little attitude since she’s been restored!! Figures why I like her, I like a bit of a rebellious nature.

Doll is a reroot rivet repaint and cardi by me.”

====================================

Dionne Bramall: “My memory of Sindy is of playing with my 1981 ballerina Sindy .. but I always wished for the 1975 .. my favourite 1975 ballerina Sindy .. !!!..

My mum managed to get me one and I adore her

The Sindy with myself.. is a ” Stardance Sindy ” from 1984 …

I love Sindy herself Barbie and other dolls were the best of friends.. as I had a few dolls ..
But she was my best friend .. In most areas of my life from young growing up to now .. she’s been my constant companion..”

====================================

Maria aka myfloridosindydolls: “My best memory of Sindy was spotting Sindy dolls again, possibly around Christmas 1977. The first Sindy I had was broken and I hadn’t seen any other Sindy dolls on shop windows for a while. And then, suddenly, the toy shop had lots of Sindys again, not just any Sindys but the wonderful Sindy Color series! I was hopeful I would get one of them for the Three Kings Day (6th January, when most Spanish children got their toys). This came to pass and Sindy India is still my favourite doll. Here she is (with braids) together with Sindy Japonesa (which I got much later) and another beautiful brunette.”

====================================

Liz aka sindylovesstyle: “Me with the girls. It was mum who bought me my first Sindy back in 1976, a Funtime short haired Sindy called Ann, who I still have and who features on my posts. I remember being so excited to get her under the Christmas tree. I think this was my happiest memory of Sindy, although there have been many over the years, including taking part in the Hobby Cave exhibition in London with my dioramas in 2024.”

====================================

Paula aka sindyandthemixtape: “Wishing TLSM a very Happy 5th Birthday!
I take it for granted that the website is there, but it’s my no.1 go to when I have a Sindy query or question that needs answering, and it’s all because of Martina’s dedication and hard work. Thank you so much lovely, and I hope you feel very proud! Congratulations! ⭐❤️🥂

“Sindy” by Sofie Mathiasen –
Last week I caught myself trying to dress like her,
I thought if I did you might take me off the shelf,
Well I’m getting tired of feeling like her understudy,
I wish you’d leave me be,
And stop treating me like toy
You can toss in the corner
Whenever you lose interest,
Cos if she’s your favourite
I don’t blame you she’s amazing,
But quit making me feel second best,
I don’t think I’m worth much
But I’m worth more than this

adollton: “As well as my lovely sisters birthday, 6th September is Sindy’s official birthday,and on top of that it’s also the 5th birthday of the Sindy Museum!

Looking back I’m pretty sure that Sindy was my first doll and I guess my best memory is rescuing this particular Sindy from a skip and restoring her!

Lucia aka sindydolls.etsy: “As an adult collector, I have some rare and beautiful Sindys in my collection, but my favourite is this girl, a Lovely Lively, received as a Christmas present in 1975. I would take her everywhere in that carry case.”

====================================

Sarah Walby aka polly.dollydaydreams: “This is me and my mini me Pollydolly. She is a short haired Party Girl Sindy from 1983 (I think).

My childhood Sindy was a blonde sleepy eye. My memories of her were that I was always making new clothes for her, raiding my Mum’s fabric stash.

Fast forward 40 odd years and I started collecting Sindy dolls just before lockdown in 2020.

I started making little clothes for them and selling them to lovely fellow collectors

Pollydolly pretty much travels everywhere with me, we have literally been all over the world together. I really don’t know what I would do if anything happened to her.”

====================================

Bonita Turner: “She has always been more than a doll to me – she is a connection to my past when my parents and grandparents treated me to many Sindy outfits & scenesetters, made me furniture & clothes, and especially my mum who very wisely stored it all away. And, to present day where she has brought so many wonderful friends into my life and given me a hobby (and part time job) that makes me smile every day.”

====================================

Maria: “I became a collector as a child in Spain after my gauntlet dolls broke and Sindy got discontinued. Finding Sindys in toyshops wasn’t easy, particularly by the mid 80s when Sindy had been discontinued for almost ten years. I went to Cuenca to visit family, walked in front of a toy shop, decided to go in on the off chance and there she was, the Sindy in the selfie.

She is “just” a regular Florido Sindy but she has become my favourite because of her face and jet-black hair. No photoshop was used in the picture but I have tried to make her look larger by holding her closer to the camera. She is wearing the hoody from the Florido outfit “Candanchú” and I’m trying to recreate her iconic side glance. My collecting was on hold for almost 40 years but I have started again after discovering the Kid Kreation Sindys in 2021.”

====================================

kitty_the_gardener: “Mitt bästa Sindy minne! Jag fyller 7år (1979) och får en Sindy av min farmor!

Sindy var min bästa vän precis som min farmor!

My favourite Sindy memory! I’m turning 7 yo (1979) and my grandma gave me a Sindy!

Sindy was my best friend, just like my grandma!

====================================

Sandra Jones: “Christmas 1975 was the year I received my first Sindy doll.  She was a Pretty Posy Sindy and tbh I wasn’t very much impressed with her.  Her legs didn’t bend, and as I was always playing with my brother’s action man, I was more impressed by them because they did bend.  The picture of Sindy and Acton Man together is from my childhood.

In 1976 around early summer I was taken to the dentist for some back teeth removal. I can still remember that horrid gas mask put upon my face. Anyways after coming home my Mam told me to go upstairs and check under the pillow, she was sure the fairies had been. And yes the to my shear delight there was a box of Funtime Sindy a few 2p coins and an orange.  (This Sindy could bend)  And from this day onwards my pure love for Sindy began. Christmas 1977 Ballerina Sindy.   Christmas 1978 Weekender Sindy. Birthday 1979 Keep Fit Sindy.

And then by the time I was going on 12 year’s of age everything was sold! To my horror coming home from secondary school I could not believe that all my Sindy’s had been sold.

I was angry and I belive my Mam felt so horrible that she caved in that Christmas and bought me the 1982 Quickchange Sindy and the Fun Buggy.  I have kept these ever since and even my daughters have played with them.

Money was tight back in the days and I can understand why my Mam had to do it but as a child we don’t.  All I can say now is Thank you my deares wonderful Mam for giving me so much happines, love and pleasure with the lovely Sindy dolls and her house and furniture.  I will love this doll forever.”

====================================

Rachel Power: “I loved my Sindy’s as a child. I had 2, a blonde ballerina in her lilac tutu and a brunette with her horse and riding outfit. My dad put shelves in my wardrobe so I could use them as room sets, and my mum made me a red velvet horse blanket embroidered with an S.

My favourite memory is of Sindy marrying my brother’s Action Man! I made plasticine food and set up a wedding banquet on Sindy’s dining table. That scene was on our living room floor for weeks until mum got fed up of hoovering around it, and made me pack it away.”

====================================

Kate Bridge: “My best Sindy memory is when I discovered that Sindy existed!  Being an American who grew up in the 1960’s my fashion doll was Ideal’s Tammy.  Unfortunately Tammy was only sold by Ideal Toys from 1962 to 1966.  Those years covered ages 8-12 for me –  the perfect time to grab my imagination and make me a Tammy fan for life.

Much, much, later in life I discovered that Tammy was considered the forerunner of a British fashion doll named Sindy.  This Tammy fan grew up to be a librarian so I had to go do my research and find out about Sindy.  I bought a copy of the Colette Mansell book.   What I saw and read made me a very happy Sindy fan.   It is amazing that Sindy love can be shared by several generations. I introduced by two granddaughters to Sindy through the Sindy Play girls.  I let each pick one to have.  The older sister wanted Fashion Blogger and the younger sister chose Pet Parlour.

I now have and love Sindy dolls from several periods of Sindy’s history, but the 60’s Sindys are probably my favorites.”

====================================

Karen Lynne: “This is me and my mini me, created dressed as my wedding day doll by the lovely Mel.”

====================================

Ally TedStar: “Me and Sindy. She was my first Sindy around 1980 and I chose the auburn ballerina. She has many other “sisters” now, but she will always be the most special.

She would go rock climbing in the garden with Action Man and zip wire and parachute from my parent’s bedroom window over the pond into the garden. She has had various limbs replaced over the years due to hard play.

My brother made a working lift for the brilliant house my dad made and my mum decorated it. I was exceptionally lucky to have had so many Sindy things as a child. I still have everything now – and I’ve acquired a few treasures I didn’t have as a child that still spark the same joy they would have when I was small.”

====================================

Sophie Sharpe: “I couldn’t choose one favourite so here’s me with my 1960s mini sindy and 1970s ballerina sindy. My favourite memory was Christmas morning 1986 when my sister and I got a huge Sindy house with dolls, furniture and vehicles. It was the best Christmas ever.

We played for hours and hours. My Dad was a fireman and got it 2nd hand from one of the firemen who’s kids had grown out of it. It was immaculate. I loved the lift on the side, the sizzling cooker, the sun terrace and spent hours rearranging the different floors. It was so big that my mom couldn’t wrap it so she covered it in a big sheet. It was so funny because me and my sister thought it was the clothes horse with a sheet drying. We opened our small presents and then mom came down and said “what about your big present?” when we removed the sheet we were amazed. It was all set up and ready to play. So magical.”

====================================

Dale Darley: “Mitzi was my childhood favourite but always needs a beret (my hairdressing attempt didn’t work out well!)

One day I will reroot her but she’ll always remain my favourite of the Sindy family. Thank you for all the wonderful photos from The Little Sindy Museum, it’s a great resource and a huge pleasure.”

====================================

Pat Gillmore: “Me with my Harley and mini me Sindy! My mum used her Green Shield stamps to buy me the first edition of Sindy in 1963. I loved the outfits of the era and Sindy’s red sports car.”
